How do I start a website?
  • Starting a website is simple. You typically need two things: a domain name (your web address) and web hosting (where your website files live). Once your domain points to your hosting, your website can be reached on the internet.

What is domain registration?
  • Domain registration reserves a name (like yourbusiness.com) so it can point to your website. Without a domain name, visitors would need to use a server IP address or a subdomain. After registration, the domain can be connected to your hosting so it loads your site.

What is a web host?
  • A web host stores your website files and delivers them to visitors over the internet. Hosting runs on servers that are online 24/7 so your website can be accessed anytime. A simple way to think about it is: hosting is the “land” your website is built on.

What are the different hosting types?
  • There are four common hosting types: shared hosting, reseller hosting, VPS, and dedicated servers. Each option differs in performance, resources, and management flexibility.

    Speed and capacity matter most for ecommerce and high-traffic sites. Any server can process only so much data per second, so a quality provider must avoid overselling resources. If you see “unlimited everything,” it’s worth looking closely at limits and fair-use policies.

What are my name servers (DNS)?
  • Your domain’s name servers (DNS) for web hosting, add-on domains, and parked domains are:

    ns1.webhost.pro
    ns2.webhost.pro
    ns3.webhost.pro

    You update name servers at your domain registrar. If you registered your domain with us, we will apply these automatically. If you transferred a domain to us, you may need to update name servers after the transfer completes.

    VPS and dedicated servers typically use custom name servers. If you need help, contact us.

Do you offer a free trial for new users?
  • We do not offer free trials for cPanel hosting, reseller hosting, or dedicated servers due to fraud risk. We do offer a 45-day money-back guarantee on web hosting and reseller plans, and a 15-day money-back guarantee for VPS and dedicated servers.

    We can also activate a limited free trial for unmanaged VPS in some cases after identity verification. Contact support if you’d like to request this.

    WordPress, ecommerce, and SiteJet hosting also include a no-questions-asked, 45-day money-back guarantee.

How do I install WordPress?
  • 1. Log in to your Account Manager from any page on our website.
    2. Under Active Services, click the hosting plan you want to use.
    3. If you see the Softaculous icon in Quick Links, open it. If not, click “Log in to cPanel.”
    4. In cPanel, locate WordPress (or open Softaculous) and follow the installer steps.

    Important tips:
    • Your domain must be live (DNS fully propagated) before the installer will work.
    • Use https:// (and https://www. if that’s your preferred format).
    • Save your /wp-admin login link after your first login for easy access later.
    • Use a security plugin with brute-force protection to help deter spammers and attackers.

What is the MySQL host?
  • localhost

    Remote MySQL access is not available on shared or reseller servers. For remote database access, you’ll need a VPS or dedicated server.

How do I optimize and secure WordPress?
  • WordPress is popular, flexible, and powerful. It can also generate high CPU usage if it’s not maintained. The good news is that performance and security improvements are straightforward, even for new users. If you’d like help, open a support ticket and we can assist.

    Below are the highest-impact steps, in order. Before you start, we recommend a full backup (files + database).

    1. Update everything
      Outdated plugins, themes, or WordPress core are a top cause of performance and security issues. Update at least monthly. Softaculous can automate updates for core, plugins, and themes.
    2. Use the newest compatible PHP version
      Check cPanel MultiPHP Manager. Start with the newest version, and only downgrade if required by a theme or plugin.
    3. Install essential plugins
      We commonly recommend:
      1) Wordfence for firewall, rate limiting, and login protection (login lockdown).
      2) LiteSpeed Cache for caching, image optimization, minification, and performance tuning.
      3) For SEO, use a dedicated SEO plugin such as Rank Math or Yoast.
    4. Keep pages lean and use lazy loading
      Long, media-heavy pages increase load and CPU usage. Consider splitting very long pages into multiple pages and enabling lazy loading for images. A common best practice is ~5 posts per page on blog archives to reduce heavy load.
    5. Remove tags (optional)
      Tags can increase page count and load without much benefit. Use clear categories instead.
    6. Remove unused themes and plugins
      Keep only what you use (plus a default WordPress theme). Fewer components generally means fewer issues.
    7. Reduce admin-ajax load
      If your site is overloaded, this guide can help: Remove Admin-Ajax
    8. Disable wp-cron and use a real cron job
      Guide: Disable wp-cron.php
    9. Limit login attempts
      Wordfence includes this by default.
    10. Compress media
      Optimize images before upload when possible. Caching/optimization plugins can also automate compression.
    11. Disable comments (optional)
      If you do not use comments, a lightweight plugin can disable them to reduce noise and spam.
    12. Force HTTPS if needed (optional)
      Some themes do not redirect correctly. Confirm your site already redirects to HTTPS before adding another plugin.
    13. Avoid heavy plugins on shared hosting (optional)
      Jetpack can increase load on some sites. It may be fine on VPS or dedicated servers, but it’s often not ideal on shared hosting.
    14. Block xmlrpc.php in .htaccess (optional)
      This can reduce certain types of automated spam. Paste one of the examples below into your .htaccess file:

      # Block WordPress xmlrpc.php requests
      <Files xmlrpc.php>
      order deny,allow
      deny from all
      </Files>

      # Block WordPress xmlrpc.php requests (allow one IP)
      <Files xmlrpc.php>
      order deny,allow
      deny from all
      allow from 123.123.123.123
      </Files>

    There are many other ways to improve WordPress. These are the most impactful steps we recommend for most new installs.
